Ministry of Proclaiming The Word of God (Readers)

The ministry of the Word is a ministry which assists the Celebrant in proclaiming the word of God during Holy Mass. The reader welcomes God’s people to the table of the Word and breaks open the word of God on their behalf. In proclaiming God’s word to the assembly, the reader stands before the people and gives them the news they need to hear. The minister is not reciting from a book about good conduct. He or she is telling the story of Salvation.

Ministers of the Word are volunteers, they function individually (not as a group) and receive a certain amount of training to ensure an acceptable standard as well as making them familiar with the technical equipment in the church.
