Parish CD Library
Many people are thirsting for more knowledge about our faith, searching for answers to questions life, especially in this time of pandemic, and are seeking a deeper relationship with Jesus.
We are very fortunate to have received a donation of a CD Library Collection of over 120 CD’s whose topics deal with a range of subjects about our faith, the Bible, catholic teachings, personal growth and much more. There are also some CDs specifically for children in the collection. The CD’s are full of rich information and are delivered by some well-known and authoritative Catholics scholars, speakers and writers.
Each CD is generally no longer than an hour long to listen to – so for example it makes for easy listening on your commute to/from work, or it can make a nice subject for an interesting afternoon tea with a friend.
THANK YOU
We thank Jean Chadwick for donating this collection to the church whose words are most compelling:
“I must say I tend to get carried away when it comes to being Catholic!
My prayer is that, in some way, our fellow parishioners get to experience, understand and love the truth, beauty and goodness which is found, in it’s fullness, within the gift of our Catholic Faith, by exploring the Faith with an open mind and a heart ready to receive.
As a cradle Catholic myself, I had no idea of the real treasures within the Church, all centered around the Blessed Eucharist, until I started questioning and delving into the big questions of life, both inside and outside of the Church. What an absolute bonus it was to discover that the answers are to be found in the full deposit of faith within the Catholic Church! And what wonderful teachers we have, throughout the ages, with such wisdom, needed more now than ever before, I would argue, given the current culture of death.”

True self False self
CD #121
Richard Rohr, O.F.M
Franciscan priest Richard Rohr feels that there is no more challenging spiritual issue than the "problem of the self". Most of contemporary spiritual teaching, he believes, is still trying to inspire and fortify the private self, the autonomous "I". Even much church work is trying to evangelize and sacramentalize what many would call "the false self". Basic transformation is not expected, but merely a new set of beliefs and practices or loyal membership in a new group. This only confirms the disguise of the ego, but does not truly offer a "new creation". Both the individual and society remain largely unchanged. Rohr believes that until the false assumptions of Western individualism are clearly faced and experienced by religious believers (and they are the only ones fully prepared to face it), there will be no real breakthroughs for Christianity or any religion. He makes reference to the work of Ken Wilbur, Thomas Merton, Eckhardt Tolle, the mystical tradition (especially of Julian or Norwich) and the new paradigms offered by quantum physics. In a presentation that embraces the challenge, inspiration and the genuine hope that is offered by the Gospel of Jesus, Rohr illustrates the implications of transformation both for individuals and for society at large.

Now, after many years of study and prayer and preaching. Rohr takes a unique approach in this entirely new series. Instead of treating the Bible as a collection of isolated books, he treats it as one inspired theology. He uncovers
nine prime ideas that gradually unfold through both the Hebrew and Christian Scriptures: shame and separation, vengeance and victims, law, grace, the redefinition of power, mystery, fear and intimacy, the paradox of the cross and the process of divinization, or "mutual indwelling."
Much of religion reveals human beings trying to become spiritual. We are already spiritrual, says Rohr, and our task , with the Spirit's help, is to be more fully human. Our journey reveals the whole story of human history, a story of transformation. Throughout history, human consciousness develops so that we can finally imitate and relate to a totally nonviolent God. This God, present in our midst, is calling forth a people and a consciousness that are capable of divine union. This union is revealed in a developmental way in both the Hebrew and Christian Scriptures. The resurrected Jesus finally reveals the full and wonder-filled nature of the heart of God. As a result, Rohr says , "We have nothing to be afraid of and much to be excited about!"
