In our parish we have defined and documented our protocols for BACK TO CHURCH (under the Archdiocese guidelines). The protocols cover WHAT to do, HOW to do it, WHO is responsible and TO WHOM it applies.
Back to Church
PROTOCOLS ON ARRIVAL
People are asked to arrive early. When people arrive at church, they are greeted by the Covid-19 Minister who will perform the screening process by ensuring people sanitise their hands and are wearing their mask properly. They will take the person’s temperature and sign off on the screening form. After this they will help people find their seats in the church.
Masks: Masks must be worn properly at all times.
Physical Distancing: Maintain safe social distances at all times, keeping at least 2m between yourself and others. Seats in the church are assigned to ensure safe physical distancing.
Hand Hygiene: Keep your hands clean. Hand sanitizer stations are positioned throughout the building.
Children: Children sit with their parents.
Doors: Most doors will be propped open and/or Covid Ministers will open doors with gloves or sanitize them so that you will not need to touch door handles.
NOTE: It is a known fact that the entrance and exit are the two most dangerous points when attending mass.
PROTOCOLS DURING MASS
Inside the church the pews and seats are marked to ensure safe social distancing and there is a one way flow of movement of people.
Taking Communion is done with extreme caution. Father sanitises thoroughly before distributing Holy Communion. With small groups, Father will take communion to communicants. When we have larger numbers, we will queue observing social distancing. Communion is received on an outstretched flat hand. People receive communion on the hand, remove their mask to consume it and then immediately replace the mask.
As of Aug 9, Deacon Mike Brooks can once again perform his role and help Father in mass.
We will also start to introduce Proclaimers of the Word whilst ensuring that the altar and sanctuary are completely safe for everyone.
Congregational singing is not permitted. We are however permitted to have an organist and one chorister. We will also continue to have our beautiful music recorded by Andrew Bentley and Kitty Cortes and will include more voices and singing as and when it is possible.
PROTOCOLS AFTER MASS
Please remain in your seats at the conclusion of the service. The Covid Minister will direct people to exit from the back of the church in a way that allows people to exit without crowding each other.
After mass as much as it is part of our culture to socialize, we request that people strictly observe social distancing and have little or no congregating. As mentioned above, the most risky places and times are the entrance and exit, because of congregating.
PROTOCOLS IF YOU ARE SICK
Participate in our live stream Mass if you are sick, experiencing COVID-19 symptoms (cough, fever, shortness of breath or loss of sense of taste or smell) or if you have been exposed to someone with COVID-19 in the past 14 days. Please do not come to church in those situations.
If you become sick within 14 days of attending Mass, please notify the Parish Office.
